After a period of time in offseason negotiations, it seems that the Toronto Blue Jays and their star slugger Vladimir Guerrero Jr. have reached an agreement.
The Athletics Ken Rosenthal reported that Guerrero and the Blue Jays are set to finalize a staggering 14 year contract extension worth $500 million. The deal is second only to Juan Soto’s New York Mets contract by stating no deferred payments.
The 26-year-old Guerrero is now in his seventh season, all with the Toronto Blue Jays. After the offseason, he set himself to become a free agent, despite openly stating he wanted to spend his entire career in Toronto. Now, he emerges as a four-time All Star and in fact going to be able to play out his intended lifetime contract with one franchise.
Torono Blue Jays first signed Guerrero in 2015 when he was only 16. He made his MLB debut in 2019 and has been a favorite fan since, winning multiple Silver Slugger awards alongside a Gold Glove. He placed first runner up in the American League Most Valuable Player voting in 2021 and sixth in the previous seasons vote.
