Argentina 4–1 Brazil: Argentina Moves to the 2026

Argentina now firmly confirms their spot in the World Cup 2026 after their dominant and energetic 4-1 win against Brazil.

The face-off was the 115th meeting for both teams and took place during the International break in March. Argentina came into the match wanting to extend their unbeaten streak to four matches against Brazil while Brazil was desperately looking to secure their first win against arch-rivals Argentina since 2019.

Lionel Scaloni’s boys did not disappoint their fans who were expecting goals and opened the scoreline in the midfirst, Julián Alvarez scored a goal in the fourth minute of the match finishing calmly after rounding off Murillo and lifting the ball past Bento. That’s not all, Molina assisted Enzo Fernández in the subsequent quarter which marked his second goal in the qualifiers.

Brazil were back in the game with Matheus liwa’s brilliant goal retrieved after he dispossessed the Argentine player Cristian Romero. The Wolves star took a long distance shot and the ball, courtesy of Emiliano Martínez, slid in the goalpost. Argentina regained control of the match after Mac Allister scored just before the half-time.The excitement of the first half of the match was almost entirely absent in the second half. At halftime, Dorival Junior made three substitutions, replacing players with Endrick, João Gomes, and Léo Ortiz, but nothing changed for Brazil as they were still unable to recover. Argentina, on the other hand, had no issues scoring a second time, this time with a goal from Giuliano Simeone.

With Argentina’s 4-1 victory over Brazil, the Seleção is now in 4th place in the rankings and have only four remaining qualifiers to play. Argentina, on the other hand, had an easy time finishing off the game, gaining three more invaluable points that further cement their position at the top of the CONMEBOL table. In March, La Albiceleste managed to secure their spot for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, even in the absence of Lionel Messi.
