With only two days left before The Masters, DeChambeau still seems to be deliberating over which driver to use for the first round.

The two-time major champion continues to adjust his personally designed drivers over and over again, trying with each one on the range at Augusta National Golf Course to find the perfect set for his game and the course.

While all of the options are not set in stone, DeChambeau remains close to being as he exudes confidence that he will win at Augusta regardless of which head he chooses.

“I’m testing some drivers right now to find the best thing I can use for me this week,” DeChambeau said during his press conference on Tuesday.

“Knock on wood, I feel like I’m in a great place. I don’t know what else to say. I’m not trying to say something outrageous that would get picked up in an article. I just feel really good headed into this year.”

It was clear on Wednesday that DeChambeau was testing two different heads as he was doing other prep work for the tournament by marking different drivers with a Sharpie marker on the range at ANGC.

“It’s just trying to get that dialed-in head, that perfect head,” DeChambeau said. “It’s one of those where for speeds of my caliber, it has to be super precise. So I’m testing different heads to see how it reacts, how I feel, how it feels in my hands. I’m swinging it really good right now, so I’m just trying to get the most precise thing in my hand for this week.”

That “speeds of my caliber” comment illustrates the bravado long associated with DeChambeau. Still, he enters this Masters seemingly a more humble person even after Augusta was called a par-67 course.

“I think as an amateur, I felt like I knew the golf course pretty well, but I didn’t know how to control a lot of the nerves that flowed through my body, and that was something that I still work on today,” DeChambeau said. “what’s changed the most is getting more comfortable with shots around this golf course.”

DeChambeau looks much more self-possessed than before his social media gave him the chance to influence the perception on brand him as a golf influencer, dominating Youtube. The fullest range of grins I have seen from him so far when he was answering questions from reporters regarding this chapter of his existence.

He even got asked whether the cameras would be rolling when putting out the content for social media at Augusta National. That part of the conversation, though fun, was rather ignored when he repeatedly remained in calm line struck through the day.

“Oh, man, if I got the opportunity, it would be great to just film something that I don’t even know.

“It is very interesting how a golf course can develop over the years,” DeChambeau mentioned. “It would be great to show all the former champions, as well as Mr. Jones’s contributions to the area, and Mr. Roberts’ life. It would be amazing to display all the history.”
