Stephen Curry set multiple records during the Golden State Warriors’ Tuesday night game against the Memphis Grizzlies, which the Warriors won 134-125.
According to the NBA, Curry became the first player in league history to score 50 points, 10 three-pointers, and five steals in a single game, thanks to his ridiculous stat line of 52 points, 10 rebounds, eight assists, five steals, and 12 three-pointers.
He also replaced Michael Jordan on the list of most 50-point games, 50% shooting, 60% three-pointer, which was his eighth time achieving the feat per NBA. Curry already holds the record for the most games with at least 10 three-pointers made, which is 27 in his career.
As for what could have incentivized him during his outburst of scoring, Warriors coach Steve Kerr hinted that Curry’s week off from the injury might’ve provided him the rest he sorely needed. Curry also participated in a few rounds of golf on the road trip, which Kerr humorously suggested contributed to his performance.
“I can’t believe he’s still doing this at this age, but he’s put the work in. He’s still got it,” Kerr said after the win. “I think [the week off] helped and I think two rounds of golf on this road trip helped. I’m only half-joking. The week off was helpful for him. He looks recharged, rejuvenated.”
Kerr noted later on in the press that, “The guy is thirty-seven years old. Just incredible. Fifty-two points with people draped all over him all game long. The conditioning, the skill, the audacity, the belief, it’s just incredible to watch Steph at work.”
Although this was Curry’s third game back from injury, it was his most offensively and defensively impactful game of the season. His performance helped the Warriors maintain their fifth seed in the Western Conference above the Grizzlies. The Warriors still have seven more regular season games left in order to secure a spot for the playoffs.
